EXTREME MAKEOVER OUTREACH ADDITION... The room fell silent as I walked on stage...40 families eyes glued on me. I could feel the  tension...see the questions in their eyes...curious of why I had called an official outreach  meeting. Last time I called a meeting I stopped paying 1 way transportation, made an  attendance policy & was honest about the long waiting list and financial difficulties.  My heart was pounding...I was nervous about how the families would accept the news that  the entire outreach program was changing... I started the meeting asking the families to  share what the program has meant to them the last 5 years. The parents shared about their  kids therapy progress, the community they had formed and encouragement they found each  week, how outreach was their for them through various financial or physical hardships, etc.  I then challenged them to remember what it felt like the first time they came seeking help for  their child...how did they feel?...what motivated them to come?...Many of them felt hopeless,  confused, overwhelmed, unsure what to do or how to care for their child. I then shared that  there are now 200 families on a waiting list and many have been there for 2 years now... I asked them to consider how hard it would have been to be placed on the waiting list... then required to WAIT...yet fully knowing the best thing for their child was not possible  at that time... Stephanie and I both have been burdened by the long waiting list for months now. The list grows weekly yet space rarely opens up in the current outreach program. We were unsure what to do but knew something had to happen. After much prayer and discussion we came up with a plan. This plan required ALOT of organization, increased f unding, and a rotational type program in order for more children to enter the active outreach program. Starting in April we took the first step of preparation which would take 2 months to complete. The first step was to see each child on the waiting list, evaluate them, make them all the appropriate equipment they needed at home, and then provide them with a label (diagnosis & level of ability). This label is what we would use to form their therapy groups. We like to group similar kids together so that parents form a community with families similar to theirs. Sadly as we started through the waiting list to call kids in for evaluations 50+ children’s pone #’s are no longer any good. We made a goal that by May 30th all the kids would be evaluated and we would have a BIG meeting with all 140 families introducing the new program, providing them with new outreach folders that were color coded by group and then by day of the week. Each family received a calander with each day they are to come  circled. The new program has a greater focus on parent education and home programming.  Empowering the families to be their child’s therapist and advocate.  THE NEW PROGRAM INCLUDES.... The new program is broken down into 4 groups of 32 families (8 per day of the week). 1. THERAPY- Instead of every child coming 1x a week for group therapy. Each child will come 1 day a week for 11 weeks in a row for group therapy. Then they will receive a customized HEP (Home Exercise Plan) for the family to continue providing care at home. Each family will pay 100gds ($1.50) for the 11 visits. We believe their is value in the parent contributing a little financially for the services their child is receiving. 2. MEDICAL- For 100gds per visit they will be able to see the doctor and receive all the medications prescribed. Facilitate seeing other medical teams as needed. 3. SEIZURE CLINIC- Access to the KRAZY Hope For Kids program where they will receive evaluations from a neurology team 2-3x a year and receive daily correct seizure medicaitons. 4. NUTRITION- Children suffering from malnourishment will have access to the special vitamin reinforced food that Stephanie makes that will provide 2 meals per day at home. 5. HOMEVISITS- Each family will receive 1 homevisit per year for education and how to do therapy in their home and provide 1:1 encouragement and share the gospel. 6. STAND/PHOENIX RISING- (Physical Therapy, Orthopedic, Prosthtic teams. We will facilitate each kid to be seen 2x per year by this these teams.  7. COMMUNITY OUTINGS-Each family will get to participate in 3 group outings (ex. beach) plus a Christmas Party where everyone will be invited to attend. These events are important because they provide an avenue for the families to have fun with their children and other families building community. 8. PARENT EDUCATION- Every first Friday of each month all 140 families are invited to come without their children for a morning of education. Each month the topic will change.   9. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT- Each therapy session is with a group of 8 other children with similar diagnosis and well as education fridays being with all 140 families.   10. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT- Each day of therapy will end with a Bible Study. Each  homevisit will include a time of devotion and individualized prayer. Community outings and Parent Education days will also have a time of worship with a message and prayer. BIG FINANCIAL NEED Outreach is our biggest financial need right now. Mainly revolving around the medical care  that we offer.  We are beyond excited to be able to extend the program to 100 more kids but are also realizing the great need to increase funding to sustain 140 kids in the program. Week  1 of launching the program we spent $100USD on medical for only 2 kids. We strongly believe we made the right decision to expand and we are being faithful in trusting that God will provide people who are passionate about outreach and see the value of the program to donate to help us sustain it.
