SPECIAL NEEDS HEALTH FAIR
I have been EXCITED to be able to participate in the 3rd annual special needs health fair that my friends Ashley and Sally put on. It is always a blessing to be able to help with this amazing event.
DAY 1- PREP DAY- We did preparations for the special needs health fair which was held at Hope Rising. The goal of this day was to pre-make as many pieces of equipment as possible (which we were able to work on 13 different projects since I was able to pre-measure for all the equipment for the 10 kids coming from St. Marc. We also set up the evaluation areas to be all ready for the actual Fair day. Set up the building clinic, orthotic room, speech/feeding evaluation station, and a hand splinting station. We had a wonderful big crew of Rehab Technicians and Therapists the most we have ever had. The church team set up all the education booths.
Our Commute from Respire to Health Fair was fun...ALWAYS an adventure |
We even had an orthotic room this year and someone specifically to run that area! YAY! |
Cleaning buckets for making bucket chairs and bucket standers |
Getting PVC connectors organized |
Getting head start on building. We had measurements for the kids from Jerry's House and so were able to start building on prep day. |
As always we had an amazing sewing team that was busy preparing... |
Lots of Teaching went on during this event as we had many Rehab Technician and Therapy students come and help. |
DAY 2- FAIR DAY
I was so busy I didn't get around to take many pictures outside of the therapy evaluation stations I was at today. There were 7 OT/PT evaluation stations, hand splinting station, oral-motor/feeding station, orthopedic prosthetic station, and equipment building station. Oh and
Therapy evaluation and measuring for equipment. We had over 40 kids and families participate.
The next 2 days is focused on equipment building and fitting AFOs, making hand splints and follow up days.
So blessed to participate in this event!
I spent majority of the day evaluating 7-8 children that a program from Mirabale had brought. I had a lot of fun evaluating and working with these kids as well as educating their families and caretakers.
Feeding, Swallowing evaluation/education table |
Therapy Ball Education Station- All families left with a therapy ball and a HEP for the ball |
Massage/Stretching Education Station |
A little CTEN Reunion... All 5 of us serve through the same organization! |
DAY 3 and 4
were busy follow up days of building equipment, fitting foot braces, making hand splints, feeding evaluations, loving on children, etc.
It has been a whirlwind yet awsome at the same time! Blessed to work alongside so many amazing therapists, rehab techs, and others who were there to helped.
There is something incredible seeing children and parents who have never received help with their special needs child receive education, equipment, and a follow up plan. So blessed to take part in this event.
DAY 4
This is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I love how so many organizations come together to pull this event off. It is a wonderful time of collaborating and serving the community at the same time!
