Round 1 of Students 2016- Megi and Bernadette

As many of you know one of my biggest passion areas is Training Nationals. It is truly the only way that therapy will be sustainable in the country of Haiti is if we train the nationals to do it. In January I had my first round of 2 students from Loma Linda (UNAH) Rehab Tech program come to do their first of 3 internships at the Miriam Center.

Meet Bernadette and Megi!

They completed the pediatric Training I have created to facilitate the students time at the Miriam Center. Some of the specialized education they received included....

1. How to do documentation

2. Sensory Integration and Sensory Behavior Training

3. Hand Splinting

4. Casting and CIMT (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy)

5. Stretching, Massage, Therapy Brushing

6. YOGA and THERABAND

7. Pre-Gate Training, Mobility and Gait Training

8. ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

9. Making Adaptive Equipment and Positioning Equipment

10. Fine Motor

 11. Community Based Rehab- Through Home Visits

12. Therapy Ball Training

13. I rarely do adults but one of our staff had a stroke and so the students helped with his care

The above are just 13 examples of the education items we discussed but we completed a many other trainings as well that I did not take pictures of the trainings. Both of these students definitely have bright futures ahead of them and I am excited to see what God has in store for them!!!!

My next set of students start in a week. We will see what God has in store for the coming 3 months.
