So 1x a month we do an outreach fun outing or event. With the new changes in outreach the 1x a month has not changed but the group that participates each month changes. Since we have 4 groups the first 4 months of outreach outings were to the Beach. From the pictures below you can see that each of the families had a good time. Some of these children had never been to the beach...Some of the parents had never had a FUN DAY 1:1 with their special needs child... It truly was a wonderful day each time we went. I always love watching the families interact, talk, laugh, enjoy a good meal, and just be free from worry and stress of everyday life in Haiti for a moment.
For the third round of students I ended up only having 1 instead of 2. Her name was Estephyole. She learned ALOT
|Fun Hand Print Art work|
She got to help facilitate 2 different beach trips for the outreach families. A time to learn about sensory play with water and sand.
Everyday from 1-3 is outreach. A time where kids from the community come for group therapy. During this time Estephyole got the chance to provide not only therapy but education to the families.
HELPING WITH OUTREACH EDUCATION EVENTS
Estephyole was present for 2 outreach parent education seminars. 1 was on when to bring your child to the clinic and basic first aid. Each family let with 2-3 bags of oral rehydration packets. The second education was on Zika Awareness and Hygiene.
she learned all about casting (putting casts on and taking them off), CIMT (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy), and club foot casting.
She got to go out into the communities on Friday afternoons to do home visits. This is a time that we go the the outreach families home and do therapy in the home, pray for them and just spend time loving on the child and family.
EVERYDAY THERAPY WITH THE MIRIAM CENTER KIDS
LEARNING HOW TO DO KINESIOTAPING
We have a visiting PT who was willing to take a day to teach me and
my staff about kinesiotaping and some of the different methods.
TRANSLATING CURRICULUM FACT SHEETSFor the last 3 weeks of her fieldwork she volunteered to help translate the diagnosis
fact sheets for the curriculum I was writing for the pediatric Rehab Tech courses. She stayed till 9 at
night on multiple occasions after a full day of work.
JUST LOVING ON THE KIDS
Estephyole was really good at just loving on the kids!!!
