For Jonathan Sake Outreach Day 10- Kenia

Kenia’s mother has been bringing her to the outreach program for therapy the last 3.5-4 years. Her mother brings her all the way from PdP which is about an hour away and costs $1 USD for transportation both ways (A little under a days wages for many). Kenia & her mother always have a HUGE smile on their faces.

Kenia has Cerebral Palsey that affects her legs and 1 arm. She has a difficult time with her legs turning in and she crouches as she walks. Kenia was evaluated for surgery a few years back to correct her legs so she could possibly walk better but the doctors said their was nothing they could do. Unfortunately every year it gets harder and harder for her to walk secondary to her getting bigger and the crouch in her legs getting worse. During outreach I stretch Kenia’s legs and have trained her mother to do the same. She has been provided with a leg brace to wear at night to put a constant stretch on the knee. The rest of outreach time is spent focusing on her hand and increasing use/dexterity in it.  . Kenia is such a hard worker although like any child will get frustrated or try to cheat during therapy activities when they get too challenging. Unfortunately it is getting too hard for Kenia to make the trip to the mission for outreach & so she is rarely able to come.

I had the privlidge of visiting her home a few months ago while I was in PdP. They live in a small room in a house with concrete floors, electricity, a bed and a few peices of furniture (A really nice house compared to many of the other outreach families I have visited). Kenia has 1 younger brother that I know of. The room next to theirs in the house they live in was extended family. Kenia has been in school for years enrolled at a school near her home. She is very bright & excels in school. It has gotten too challenging for her to walk to and from school secondary to distance and her legs. Her legs have also begun causing her a lot of pain & she often has to miss school secondary to being in pain. When Kenia feels well enough to go to school her mother takes her by Moto (a form of public transportation) both ways which is an added expense. Kenia was shy during our homevisit but when asked questions she would answer them.

Please keep Kenia & her family in your prayers. Pray for relief from the pain in Kenia’s legs and that she will not loose any more of her ability to walk. Pray for wisdom for all of us who are trying to find ways to maintain her current level of mobility and find ways to increase her quality of life. Pray for wisdom, guidance, peace, & strength for Kenia’s mother as she cares for Kenia. And finally Pray for God’s blessing over this family.

I have been so blessed to get to know and serve this Beautiful family. Kenia & her mom truly have a special relationship!
