Rosemeldrine’s mother has been faithfully bringing her
beautiful daughter to the outreach program for 4 years now. When Rosemeldrine’s
mother first starting bringing her, Rosemeldrine had no neck control and was
unable to sit. She has come so far thanks to all who helped educate her mother
on what exercises to do with Rosemeldrine and her mother’s dedication to carry out
treatment at home.
Rosemeldrine can now control her head, sit on her own, transition from lying down to sitting and can walk with both hands held. Her mother reports that since Rosemeldrine has started walking she gets mad & upset when she has to sit in a chair & will scream & cry. Rosemeldrine would be happy walking all the time. We are currently working on teaching Rosemeldrine to hold onto a stick while walking with hopes to transitioning her to using a walker to push around. What freedom& independence that would give her. The other day during outreach I got a further glimpse into how smart Rosemeldrine is while playing games on the IPAD. She sure did love the cause-effect games! She preferred using her toes over her hands ;-p such a silly girl!
Earlier this year Rosemeldrine’s
mother was in a car accident that left her with a broken leg. She was
hospitalized for weeks and was placed into a cast all the way to her hip for
months. Her mother’s biggest concern was not being able to take care of
Rosemeldrine. She contacted us at the Miriam Center
seeking help. She asked us to take Rosemeldrine till she got better. Instead we
were able to find a caretaker that lived at their home & took care of
Rosemeldrine & her mother till she recovered. Rosemeldrine’s mother’s leg
healed incorrectly. Her 1 leg is now shorter than the other & causes her a
lot of pain. There are weeks she is unable to bring Rosemeldrine to outreach
because of the pain & how difficult it is for her to carry her daughter all
the way to the mission. When the surgery team in October came in she was
assessed by the orthopedic surgeon who unfortunately said their was nothing he
could do for her in Haiti .
If she was in the states they could re-break the leg and do an intensive
treatment that could possibly help. Please keep her leg in your prayers. Pray
for relief from the pain & healing. Despite the pain & her physical set
back…Rosemeldrine’s mom radiates Joy & demonstrates her tremendous love for
her daughter. I absolutely love watching her interact & love on her
daughter.
Rosemeldrine’s mother is a singe
mother who is unemployed. The other week she approached me after outreach to
see if I had any food. She stated that her & Rosemeldrine had not eaten in
over day because she had no food & no $ to buy food. After talking with
Presidue (The Haitian over the outreach program) he confirmed that she was
indeed in need of food. I always run all request/needs through Presidue. He has
grown up on the mountain, he knows these families, and I completely trust his
judgement of who needs things & who doesn’t. Presidue has a wealth of knowledge
and is full of compassion & love. I am so blessed to work alongside such a
Godly man. Ok off my tangent back to Rosemeldrine. That week I was able to
bless her with some food I had up in my room. I am so thankful that we were
able to grow in relationship with this family!
I have had the privilege of
visiting Rosemeldrine & her mother at their home 2x in the past few months.
They rent a room in a house where others rent rooms as well. times I visited
Rosemeldrine she has been a spitfire full of laughter, smiles, giggles, making silly
noises/faces & just goofy. She is much more reserved during outreach &
I so love seeing this other side to her. She definitely is a determined little
girl…she knows what she wants & will get her point across even though she
cannot talk. Last time I visited, her mother placed her in a chair to sit with
us while we talked. Rosemeldrine reached for my had as she wanted to stand
& walk. I turned her around to walk back towards her mom & she refused.
She was letting me know she wanted to stand with me (she fully knew her mother
would place her back into her chair. Her mother got the biggest smile &
said thank you repeatedly when we were able to gift her with a solar power
Christian Radio from radio 4VEH that has a MP3 version of the New Testament in
Creole on it. She was excited for the encouragement she could find daily from
listening to it.
When asked how I could be praying
for her & Rosemeldrine the following were her responses…
·
That Rosemeldrine would continue to gain
strength & new skills eventually walking on her own. That she would one day
be able to go to school & learn
·
That she would be able to find a husband that
loves Rosemeldrine & her and would be able to provide for their family.
Please also keep her leg in your
prayers. Pray for relief from the pain & healing.
