For Jonathan Sake Outreach Chair Making

Last year we were ale to bless all the outreach families with a specialized Haitian Chair with high backs and appropriate height for there legs (typically these Haitian chairs are low back and very low to the ground). Unfortunately at the time I had not yet invented my additional ductape supports for the itty bits who need more assistance with controlling their heads and/or slouch/slide out of their chairs without support between their legs.

A few weeks ago we had a wonderful opportunity on a Tuesday to really meet this need and pour into 15 of the outreach familiea. We put on some good Creole music and together worked to adapt each of their children's chairs to promote better positioning. I had a great therapy team helping Nicholson, Nahum, Patricia, and  Laura. My therapy staff cut the foam for each chair and the parents ductaped the pieces together. They really enjoyed getting to customize their child's chair by picking the colored ductape they used.

Preparations For The Day

When everyone was finished making their chairs we had a time of praise/worship and an encouraging message from God's word. They each got a laminated copy of the message with the encouraging scriptures.

At the end of the day we shared a meal together. The itty bits had a fortified corn meal and the parents ate pate (a fried dough with meat inside).

Overall it was a GREAT day! I love knowing that many of these children have been unable to use their chairs without these adaptations...now can! They can sit up at home and see the world from a different perspective...the chairs will making eating easier and safer as well.

I had to get a few selfies with the kids ;-) Man do I love these kiddos!
